Kamala Harris introduced her vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz, at their first campaign rally in Philadelphia, describing him as a former teacher and popular football coach who inspired his students, served in the military, and improved the lives of his constituents. However, it was his ability to deliver sharp attacks against their Republican opponents that earned Walz a spot on the national ticket. During his first rally, he did not miss the mark.
Tim Walz addressed the crowd, saying, "Thank you, Madam Vice President Harris, for the trust you have placed in me." The newspaper noted that the Minnesota governor's speech began with half an hour of cheers for Vice President Kamala Harris and concluded with some of the most intense attacks by Democrats on former President Donald Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance from Ohio.
He continued: "Donald Trump sees the world a little differently than we do. First and foremost, he doesn’t know the first thing about service. He doesn't have time for that because he's too busy serving himself." Then came what The New York Times described as a "dagger" when Walz stated, "Violent crime has increased during Donald Trump's time." He added sarcastically, "Of course, this doesn’t even include the crimes he committed," referring to Trump's criminal convictions.
Walz continued his attack on Trump’s deputy, JD Vance: "And like all the regular folks I grew up with in the heartland, JD Vance went to Yale University, had his career funded by Silicon Valley billionaires, and then wrote a bestselling book criticizing that community. This is not what Middle America represents, and I have to tell you, I can’t wait to debate the man."
