The head of the Tourism Committee in the House of Representatives stated that increasing support for bread subsidies and ration card commodities supports those in need of care. Over the past years, the government has taken on the responsibility of social protection, as evidenced by the General State Budget for the new fiscal year 2025/2024, which witnessed an increase in support allocations and social benefits amounting to 635.943 billion Egyptian pounds.
She emphasized that there was a 20.1% increase in this file that concerns millions of Egyptians and all Egyptian families, confirming that supporting bread subsidies and ration card commodities is one of the most important decisions that interest the majority of the Egyptian people. She praised the state's actions as a significant achievement that should not be underestimated amidst many accomplishments that have benefited ordinary citizens.
In addition to other support items in the new budget, which included support for pension funds, social security pensions, health insurance, and medicines.
The Secretary of the Economic Committee in the House of Representatives mentioned that the new General Budget has been fair to the first social classes in need of care. The Egyptian state has focused on increasing social protection over the past months, especially for the most needy categories across all material, social, and health levels.
The budget for the new fiscal year doubled financial allocations for the first social classes in need of care. It targeted supporting easy loan interest for popular housing and easy lending for poor families. The state allocated approximately 200 million pounds to support easy loan interest, which benefits these categories and helps reduce unemployment rates.
A member of the Human Rights Committee in the House of Representatives stated that the General Budget for the new fiscal year includes increased allocations for the health and education sectors by more than 30%. These sectors are among the top priorities for building the Egyptian human capital.
The member highlighted an increase in support, grants, and social benefits to 636 billion pounds, including 144 billion pounds for subsidizing food commodities, 154 billion pounds for petroleum products, 215 billion pounds for pensions, 23 billion pounds for export support, and 40 billion pounds for solidarity and dignity programs.
These numbers reflect the state's and political leadership's interest in social protection, health, education, and support as a priority, following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives. This approach aligns with the Egyptian state's focus on health, education, support, and pensions to mitigate the effects of global changes on all countries' economies, including Egypt, which has not abandoned its citizens in these challenging circumstances.
